Welcome to Pukiki Curry

 Story of
           Pukiki

"Pukiki" in Hawaiian language refers to the descendants of Portuguese immigrants who arrived in Hawaii in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The term "Pukiki" comes from the Hawaiian word for "Portuguese."

Portuguese migration to Hawaii began in the mid-1800s when workers were recruited from Portugal's Azores and Madeira islands to work on sugar plantations. These immigrants brought with them their language, culture, and traditions, enriching the multicultural landscape of Hawaii.

Initially, Portuguese immigrants faced challenges such as language barriers and unfamiliar working conditions. However, they quickly adapted to life in Hawaii and made significant contributions to the islands' economy and society.

Many Portuguese immigrants worked in the sugarcane fields, while others found employment in industries such as ranching, fishing, and carpentry. Over time, they established communities throughout the islands, maintaining their cultural heritage while also embracing aspects of Hawaiian culture.

The descendants of these early Portuguese immigrants, known as "Pukiki" Portuguese, continue to play an important role in Hawaii's cultural tapestry. They have preserved their language, culinary traditions, and festivals, such as the annual Portuguese Festa, which celebrates their heritage.

Today, "Pukiki" Portuguese are an integral part of Hawaii's diverse population, contributing to the islands' vibrant multicultural society while keeping alive the legacy of their ancestors who journeyed across the Pacific in search of a better life.
